Welcome

Term dates for 2019/2020

For children between the ages of 2 and 5 we provide a breakfast club, morning and afternoon sessional care, after school club as well as a lunch club. The breakfast club and the after school club are also open to primary school children attending Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School. Primary school children are escorted to school by pre-school staff at the end of the breakfast club and children attending the after school club are collected from school by pre-school staff. We gladly welcome children with special needs and government funding is available for children of 3 years and older and eligible 2 year olds. We are a registered charity run by a committee of parents and have been successfully inspected by Ofsted.

Our Lady of Lourdes Pre-school is situated in Leigh-on-Sea, close to many of our local schools. The pre-school premises were purpose-built in 2007 within the grounds of Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School and provide a secure and stimulating environment for all children from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds to learn, play and flourish. The children have supervised access to our extensive outside areas as well as the school field where they love to explore their outside world and learn about their environment.

How we learn

How the setting supports children’s learning:

We value a learning environment both inside and outside the setting which is carefully organised to

enable children to develop and demonstrate characteristics of effective learning. Children are given

free access to the outdoor learning space whenever it is supervised by a member of staff.

Practitioners support children in playing and exploring, active learning and developing creativity and

critical thinking. We value resources that promote possibility-thinking and offer limitless

opportunities for play and learning. Children learn by leading their own, and by taking part in, play

that is guided by adults. The child and adult engage in ‘sustained shared thinking’.

Parents as partners

We believe that parents are children’s first educators and, when parents and practitioners work

together in early years settings, the results have a positive impact on children’s development and learning. We encourage parents to contribute to our assessments and provide advice on how learning and development can take place at home.

The committee

We are a registered charity run by an elected committee of volunteers made up of parents of children attending the pre-school. The committee work in tandem with the staff to ensure the smooth running of the pre-school. The committee is elected every year at the annual general meeting (AGM) which is held in October. We depend very much on the goodwill of parents and their involvement with the pre-school.  Without the committee the pre-school would not be able to operate and would have to close. We very much look forward to welcoming all new volunteers.
